Free after hours Internet from iBurst

Jannie van Zyl, CEO iBurst
iBurst has launched a three month trial of free Internet after midnight for current iBurst Wireless subscribers, as of today, 1 April 2010.

The free Internet access will be granted between midnight and 8am to active iBurst Wireless customers, both contract and month-to-month users, during a three month trial which starts in April.

“This is a value add for people who are online late at night. With many users performing specific functions at this time, we felt there was an opportunity to reduce the cost of access even more for our customers and give them value in the wireless broadband space”, said iBurst CEO, Jannie van Zyl.

iBurst subscribers are allowed to use the Internet freely in the specified time, with traffic being zero-rated and not counting towards their monthly bandwidth allocation.

According to van Zyl, the free after hours Internet service will benefit subscribers who regularly perform batch uploads or downloads, large file transfers, backups, late night surfing or gaming sessions.

“We want to set our price, and how we deliver the services, so that it is easier to compare iBurst wireless with the fixed line services, although our true competitors in this space are the mobile carriers with 3G”, added van Zyl.

This service is initially being introduced as a free trial to test market viability before officially launching it as a value added service, set for July this year.

The broadband provider plans to launch more affordable Internet services in the next three months.
