Telltale Games, the studio that popularised episodic, choice-based games like The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, and Batman: The Enemy Within announced that it was following through on a majority studio closure.
The company laid off approximately 250 employees last week Friday, September 21, 2018, after co-founder and former CEO, Kevin Bruner, sued the company seeking recovery of financial damages and it was revealed that Telltale employees are often subjected to toxic management. Only a small team of 25 will remain “to fulfill the company’s obligations to its board and partners,” according to Telltale.

Only a month prior, Telltale kicked off the final season of its award-winning series, The Walking Dead. Amid the layoffs, there was concern over the continuation of the new series. However, the second episode came out as scheduled on the 25th of September, 2018, and there have been reports of potential partners stepping forward to help the studio complete the final season.

Telltale also announced a second season of The Wolf Among Us and a game based off of Netflix’s Stranger Things before the closure. The company has not yet commented on the status of those projects, but Netflix has confirmed that it will continue with the Stranger Things project whether it’s through Telltale or not.
