The Chinese smartphone manufacturer gave members of the press an up-close look at the new P10 and P10 Plus at their offices in Sandton on Thursday afternoon. At the event newly appointed Huawei SA GM Zhao Likun revealed Huawei’s plans for the South African market.

Having seen a 87% growth in 2016, largely thanks to the popular P series and mate series, the ambitious company now believe they can see themselves rise to the top 2 brands in the South African market. “Huawei sees South Africa as our most valuable market,” said Zhao.

They plan to achieve this by targeting SA’s high-end market with a quality focused strategy. Zhao spoke of trying to create an experience for Huawei customers which begins with the opening of their experience stores. With one store already open and more to follow, Zhao highlighted the companies intentions to expand to wearables, tablets and laptops.

The opening of the experience stores come after Huawei opened two service stores last year. The stores form part of Huawei’s quality strategy by offering a 2 hour long repair time and two free screen replacements, while also looking to still further develop new additional services for consumers.

The P10 and P10 Plus will play a big role in helping Huawei achieve their goal. The device, which will be available at stores in a few weeks, has targeted four key areas of focus, camera, fast and safe charging, design, performance and connectivity.

The device will be available for pre-order for the first time in South Africa and will come with premium added extras. The recommended retail price for the P10 is R12 999 while the bigger P10 Plus will retail for R13 999.

The ultra slim smartphone will compete at the top-end of the market.
