Lenovo unveils cutting-edge YOGA line-up for South Africa

Lenovo has revealed the launch of the multimode YOGA 3 Pro, YOGA Tablet 2, and the YOGA Tablet 2 Pro. According to the company, these additions to the YOGA line-up aim to redefine the computing experience and address users’ desires for stylish devices, performance capabilities as well as hardware and software adaptability and capability.

At the reveal, Aymar de Lencquesaing, President, Lenovo EMEA stated that: “The expansion of the YOGA line-up in South Africa is in line with our commitment to establishing a strong foundation in Africa. Africa remains one of Lenovo’s strategic growth regions and we are witnessing tremendous demand for Lenovo devices from our partners as well as our customers. That’s why, it is imperative that we continue to expand and invest in the continent to deliver innovations that serve the unique needs of Africans.”


Additionally, Aymar de Lencquesaing revealed that the company will be introducing the Motorola brand back into the South African market. “The Motorola brand is an iconic brand and we have every intention of bringing that brand to the South African market once again.”

At the reveal event Aymar de Lencquesaing, along with Graham Braum General Manager at Lenovo Africa, revealed the following devices.

Lenovo YOGA 3 ProYOGA 3 Pro
According to Lenovo, the Yoga 3 Pro features a watchband hinge design – which boasts a thin and light frame. To add to this, the device features a QHD+ screen as well as Harmony software, which adapts to a user’s personal preferences as they use the device in its different modes.

Harmony complements YOGA’s responsive hardware features by giving users a new way to discover and use more than 50 of the most popular applications. For example, when reading an e-book, Harmony will automatically change the brightness and colour temperature according to the environment lighting.

The YOGA 3 Pro’s frame is 17% smaller than its predecessor, at just 12.8mm thin. It is also 14% lighter than the YOGA 2 Pro, at 1.19kg. These weight and size reductions were achieved with Lenovo’s new watchband hinge constructed from more than 800 pieces of steel and aluminum. Six focus points provide the same degree of flexibility and flatness seen in metallic watchbands.

Some of the key device features include:

– Intel Core M processor and Intel integrated graphics
– Four modes – laptop, stand, tent and tablet
– QHD+ 3200×1800 display with durable Gorilla Glass
– JBL speakers with Waves Audio, which automatically adjusts the audio in each of the four modes
– Solid state drive storage up to 512GB
– 7.2 hours battery life (Dependant on usage)
– High-speed 802.11 a/c Wi-Fi

According to Lenovo, the YOGA Tablet 2 combines design innovation with enhanced technology features to deliver a premium convertible entertainment device. Built to adapt to a user no matter where they go, the tablet’s redesigned kickstand now rotates nearly 180° to offer a brand-new mode – hang – for a completely hands-free, interactive experience in the kitchen, on a plane or at the gym.

Some of the key device features include:

– Option of two sizes: 8-inch or 10-inch Full HD IPS display
– Option of two OS: Android and Windows (with Microsoft Office 365 preloaded with 1-year subscription)
– Four modes: Hold, Tilt, Stand and Hang
– Twin large-chamber front-facing Dolby Audio speakers and Wolfson Master HiFi
– 10-point multi-touch wide viewing angle
– Powerful Intel Atom quad-core processor
– 18-hour battery life
– 8MP rear camera
– 2GB RAM; 16GB storage space, supporting Micro SD card up to 64GB
– Intel Burst technology, which monitors user activity and matches processing power accordingly to maximise battery life

YOGA Tablet 2YOGA Tablet 2 Pro
According to Lenovo, the YOGA Tablet 2 Pro presents users with a new way to read, watch, connect and create through a number of world-first technologies.

The tablet incorporates a Pico projector, which is capable of projecting a 16:9 high resolution image onto any surface for an instant 50-inch theater experience. Coupled with a first – an 8 watt sound system with subwoofer that quadruples the speaker power of an average tablet.

The YOGA Tablet 2 Pro features a QHD 2560×1440 13-inch screen that serves people’s growing appetite for content on tablets – Lenovo research found that 88% of people consume large amounts of digital content on tablets at home and more than half watch TV several times a week on their tablets.

Some of the key device features include:

– Dolby Audio and Wolfson Master HiFi for a multi-channel listening experience
– Thin and light design, at just 3.7mm and 950 grams
– The latest 4th generation Intel Atom processor for seamless multitasking
– High resolution 8MP rear camera
– 32GB onboard storage, expandable to 64GB via Micro SD
– Up to 15 hours battery life (Dependant on usage)
– Four modes: Hold, Tilt, Stand and Hang
– Optional 4G LTe connection (Dependent on mobile carrier)

At the reveal event, Graham Braum stated that: “South African customers want a better way to read, browse, watch and interact with content. The new YOGA line-up gives you the freedom to do it the way you want. It adapts to your needs and takes the experience one step further by offering technologies never seen before on tablets and laptops.”
