Back in July 2014, Microsoft was expected to cut up to 18000 jobs. According to a press statement, the company revealed that the cuts were part of a restructuring plan to simplify the organisation as well as align the recently acquired Nokia Devices and Services business with the company’s overall strategy.
This week, Microsoft revealed that it has cut the remaining 3000 positions, which effectively completes its plan’s to reduce its workforce numbers.
According to a Microsoft Spokesperson, “We’ve taken another step that will complete almost all the 18000 reductions announced in July. The reductions happening this week were spread across many different business units and many different countries.”
According to Reuters, Microsoft will have about 110,000 employees once the job reductions are completed. It took a charge of $1.1 billion in its latest quarterly earnings report for the restructuring and integration of the Nokia phone operation and associated job cuts.
