SQS Software Quality Systems, the world’s leading specialist in software quality, continues to invest in its Software Testing Boot Camp, which addresses the lack of comprehensive training in South Africa for the IT discipline of software quality and testing.

SQS’ Boot Camp, the first of its kind in South Africa, forms part of the company’s proactive skills development strategy, and has been designed to provide unique opportunities for both South African and international IT professionals who are looking for a career in the burgeoning software quality and testing sector.
55 successful South African applicants will attend the Boot Camp during the course of this year, and will subsequently work in the company’s Durban and Johannesburg offices. Additionally, the Boot Camp has become SQS’ international hub for training, and the winter will witness new recruits from the company’s international locations visiting Durban to start their careers in testing. As SQS is an international company, many of the South African Boot Camp attendees will also have the opportunity to work on international projects.
According to a recent study by PAC (Pierre Audoin Consultants), 91 per cent of key IT decision-makers consider software testing and quality management to be among the most important of all IT disciplines. As a software glitch can lead to financial and reputational losses, South Africa’s software testing industry must grow as new technologies appear, especially in the mobile and cloud related fields.
SQS’s Boot Camp is one of the only local initiatives that comprehensively address the severe shortage of structured specialist training programmes for IT graduates keen to work in software quality and testing.
“The testing market is growing exponentially, and this training programme provides local IT professionals with the relevant skills needed to achieve success in this arena,” says Trevor Luyt, Managing Director of SQS South Africa. “This is the only local programme of its kind to offer participants such a solid grounding in this discipline, and our expectation is that it will spur further developments of its kind around the country.”
The Boot Camp induction programme is an intensive, three week long training course, which covers everything from technical know-how to professional business etiquette. The programme has been designed to provide employees with a holistic overview of business processes, as well as the specialist skills required to ensure optimal performance.
“For IT professionals looking for a career in this burgeoning sector, there simply is no better option,” explains Luyt. “The training not only provides candidates with a solid skill set, but also gives them the chance to explore other opportunities within our many other branches around the world.”
