ICANN approves the use of new domain suffixes
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (Icann) voted in favour of extending the website domain suffixes by private companies , which will allow them to replace .com with their own branding, such as .bank, .vegas, or .store.
Mozambique to get slice of SEACOM cable
SEACOM, the giant underwater broadband cable, has signed a Master Services Agreement with Telecomunicacoes de Mocambique (TDM), the leading telecommunications service provider in Mozambique.

MTN passes 150 million subscribers
MTN Group President and CEO Sifiso Dabengwa announced that MTN increased its subscriber base by 7.4 million to 149 million customers, and has subsequently passed 150 million mobile subscribers across its 21 operations.
8ta launches SA’s cheapest data package
8ta, South Africa’s newest mobile operator launched a low cost mobile broadband data offering, for entry level Internet users. 8ta customers may now purchase a ‘Go Big’ 10GB (Gigabyte) data bundle at R199 per month with the option of an additional 10GB midnight surfer (12am – 5am) data bundle at R100 per month.
