Sony Corp. is planning to launch a motion controller for its PlayStation3 console, aiming to offer a gaming experience beyond its rival’s Nintendo Wii.
The company announced that its controller, called PlayStation Move, will be available by the end of 2010 and will be distributed in starter packs with a game for less than $100, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The announcement was made at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, where Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony’s videogame development unit, called the PS3 Move controller “precise, responsive and ultra sensory”, saying it can control any game actions, whether it mimics a sword or a tennis racket.
Nintendo’s Wii console has proven so popular since its launch, that gaming companies are now investing in motion controllers for their consoles. Besides Sony, Microsoft announced that they would launch a similar gadget for its Xbox 360 later in the year, known as Project Natal and again.
