HTC defends its position in Apple patent infringement case

High Tech Computer (HTC) today has defended itself against accusations of patent infringements by Apple.

The company said it uses its own technology and is working with the US justice system to protect its innovations, adding that Apple is not a threat to its business, writes computerworld.com.

“HTC is not only a mobile technology innovator, [we] also hold a large number of patents”, the company said in a filing to the Taiwan Stock Exchange, claiming they have been developing mobile devices for over a decade.

On Tuesday, Apple filed a patent infringement lawsuit against HTC, accusing the Taiwanese company of 20 patent infringements related to the usage of iPhone’s user interface, architecture and even hardware in the latest HTC smartphones that use Google’s Android operating system and Windows Mobile OS.

Patent infringement lawsuits are common to smartphone vendors. Last October, Nokia sued Apple over 10 patent infringements, followed by Apple’s own accusations directed at Nokia.
