The new iPad features the Retina Display, which is capable of over 3.1 million pixels on the 9.7-inch Multi-Touch screen. The device is powered by a Dual-core A5X chip with quad-core graphics and has an embedded 5MP iSight camera, capable of 1080p HD video recording.

Core Group, official distributors of the new iPad, recently suggested that the retail price for the 16 GB be R4 999, the 32 GB model for R5 999 and the 64 GB version for R6 999. The new iPad with Wi-Fi and 4G will be slightly more expensive, with the 16 GB retailing for R6 299, the 32 GB for R7 299 and the 64 GB model for R8 299.

Although the new iPad is 4G capable, South Africa doesn’t yet have any 4G networks available, but the 4G devices will connect to the currently-available 3G network.

8.ta currently have a number of 3G data plans available for the new iPad. A once-off Internet Data Bundle of 512MB will be R120, 1GB for R160 and a 3GB data bundle for R299.
