Google has officially launched Notebooks in Gemini, bringing the powerful, source-grounded research capabilities of NotebookLM directly into the Gemini app.

With AI becoming an increasingly important tool for learning, research and productivity, Notebooks in Gemini transform the app into a powerful project and knowledge management partner. The feature combines Gemini’s advanced AI capabilities with NotebookLM’s trusted approach to source-grounded research, allowing users to build personalised knowledge bases around the topics that matter most to them.

Whether preparing for exams, managing a business project, conducting research or planning a major life milestone, users can now organise their sources, files and conversations within dedicated notebooks that sync seamlessly across Gemini and NotebookLM.

“Across Sub-Saharan Africa, we’re seeing growing demand for AI tools that help people learn faster, work smarter and turn information into action,” said Siya Madikane, Communications & Public Affairs Manager at Google South Africa. “With Notebooks in Gemini, we’re making it easier for students, entrepreneurs, creators and professionals to organise their knowledge, stay on top of projects and get more value from the information they already have.”

Millions of people already use Gemini to brainstorm ideas, conduct research, and complete everyday tasks. Notebooks in Gemini builds on this, by creating dedicated spaces where users can store and organise documents, notes and conversations related to a specific topic or project.

Once sources are added, Gemini can draw on those materials alongside its broader AI capabilities to provide more personalised, context-aware assistance. Changes made within a notebook automatically sync between Gemini and NotebookLM, allowing users to move seamlessly between the two experiences while maintaining continuity across their work.

This launch unlocks new possibilities for users across Sub-Saharan Africa:

  • Students can create dedicated notebooks for subjects, courses, or university applications, bringing together study materials, lecture notes, assignments, and supporting documents in one place. Gemini can then help transform these materials into study guides, quizzes, flashcards, presentations, and other learning resources.
  • Entrepreneurs can organise business plans, market research, customer insights, and strategic documents within a single notebook, making it easier to analyse information, identify opportunities, and make informed decisions.
  • Professionals can use notebooks to manage long-term projects, centralise reference materials, and maintain context across ongoing workstreams, reducing the need to repeatedly upload documents or re-establish context in conversations.
