Millions of users worldwide were left frustrated as a sudden power outage across major social media platforms sparked frustration, confusion, and reflection on just how deeply embedded these platforms are in our daily lives.
According to investigations, the outage was caused by a major disturbance at one of the biggest cloud computing companies in the world, Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Numerous platforms and apps powered by AWS were severely affected. Global repercussions resulted from AWS’s data centers in Northern Virginia experiencing technical issues.

AWS service status page has downgraded the severity of the AWS outage from ‘degraded’ to ‘impacted.’
An update from Amazon Web Services was shortly released stating that it was seeing ‘massive signs of recovery,’ it said in a statement. “We continue to work towards full resolution and will provide updates as we have more information to share.”
