Shakwa Nyambe, Managing Partner of SNC Incorporated, has been named President-Elect of the Association of International Energy Negotiators (AIEN) for the 2024–2025 term.

The AIEN Board of Directors approved his position. Nyambe will become AIEN’s substantive president from 2025 to 2026, making him the first African to manage the organization since its inception in 1982.

Nyambe’s appointment acknowledges his remarkable leadership and expertise in the global energy sector, as well as his contributions to educational and networking initiatives and the creation of model contracts. As he leaves his position as Vice President of Communications, Nyambe will be at the vanguard of AIEN’s strategic activities, determining the organization’s future direction and bolstering its global authority in energy discussions.

AIEN, an independent not-for-profit professional membership association established in Houston, Texas, helps international energy negotiators improve their global efficacy and professionalism. The group creates model contracts widely used in the global energy industry and now represents cross-border energy negotiators in the upstream, midstream, and downstream hydrocarbon sectors across over 110 countries.

Nyambe joined AIEN as a dedicated member before becoming the Regional Chapter Director for Africa. His leadership had a substantial impact on the establishment and success of AIEN’s African Regional Chapter, establishing it as a critical venue for industry discourse and involvement. Nyambe’s active participation in numerous AIEN committees, such as the Joint Operating Agreement (JOA) Committee and the Hydrogen Taskforce, demonstrates his thorough awareness of the energy sector and dedication to advancing sustainable energy solutions.

As President-Elect, Nyambe will use his broad experience to support AIEN’s purpose of assisting international energy negotiators. His new responsibilities include developing the association’s strategic direction and boosting its global reputation.

Commenting on his appointment, Nyambe said, “I am deeply honored and humbled to be appointed as the President-Elect of the Association of International Energy Negotiators. This recognition is a testament to the collective efforts of our dedicated team and the unwavering support of our members. I look forward to building on the strong foundation laid by my predecessors and working closely with our members to further strengthen AIEN’s position as a global leader in the energy sector.”
