WhatsApp has boosted the number of participants you can have in one single group call in the latest beta update, according to Tech Weez.

WEBETAInfo reports that this feature is available on the beta versions of the Android app (ver 2.20.133) and the iOS app (ver

The new update allows you to have a group call with a maximum of 8 participants – previously, the maximum people calling was 4. When users are going to make a group video or voice call by tapping the call button, they will be prompted to add contacts to the call – you can select up to 7 participants now. However, in order for this many participants to be on the call – everyone needs to have the same update installed. It won’t work if some people have the latest update while others have an older version of the app.

It is important to note that these features are on the beta app which means that you will need to install a beta version of WhatsApp if you’re not on the beta channel. The good news about the feature being on the beta channel is that it will be implemented on the final mass-market build soon enough, which will make it much easier for everyone.

WhatsApp During Lockdown

WhatsApp continues to capitalize on its 2-billion users, many of whom are in isolation and lockdown during the global pandemic. These users still want to keep in contact, still want to make video and voice calls to catch up with friends and family. With the new video and voice call limits, an entire group conversing on the app is now a possibility – previously you could only talk to 3 people at once.

The new limit will surely be a welcome addition by many. The only problem now is deciding who gets to talk first.
