Ride-hailing service, Bolt has announced that will be taking extra precautions to ensure the safety of its drivers and passengers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We remain cognizant of the fact that even during the virus outbreak, some people still need to move around in the city. We are doing our best to fulfil our mission and help them do so,” says Ola Akinnusi, Country Manager at Bolt Kenya
It hopes to do this by introducing a new ride-type – Bolt Protect – which will ensure all vehicles are fitted with a protective nylon film that divides the passenger seats from the driver’s seat. This film will limit airflow between the driver and passengers, ultimately acting as a barrier.
“The safety and wellbeing of our passengers and drivers is our highest priority. The protective setup of a new Bolt Protect helps reduce the risk of the virus spreading through coughs and sneezes,” adds Akinnusi.
“However, this is just one of the precautionary measures. We strongly advise all our drivers and passengers to act responsibly and continue following the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health.”
Along with the nylon film, Bolt says that it will also ensure this ride-type includes these safety measures:
- Adequate ventilation in vehicles
- Cleaning of door handles and passenger seats after each completed trip
- A dedicated sanitiser compartment
- Limit of 2 passengers
