ABSA banking app blocks access to IOS customers

South African financial services provider, ABSA has acknowledged that several customers who use iPhones were restricted access to its banking app.

A report from My Broadband suggests that this is because the customers’ data had been erased from ABSA’s systems earlier this week.

“We can confirm that a small number of our iOS app users have experienced technical challenges when they were asked to relink their device on the app,” says Christine Wu, Customer Value Management Executive at ABSA, to MyBroadband.

“This is limited to some Apple/iOS devices. Our technical teams have rectified the issue and released an updated Absa Banking App on the Apple App Store.”

Here’s how to regain access

If you were one of the unlucky IOS users kicked out of the banking app, don’t fret – here’s how to fix it:

Step 1 – update your ABSA banking app

Step 2 – re-verify your account

To verify your account you’ll need the following info:

  • App PIN code
  • Card number
  • Card PIN
  • Access account number
  • Access account PUN
  • Password

“Customers whose cards have expired are urged to contact our call centre or visit a branch as soon as possible,” urges Wu.

My Broadband reports that “one affected reader told MyBroadband that they were unable to verify their online banking login as this requires app-based verification”.

“This reader was also unable to re-link their device to the banking app as they were logging into an account for which the card had expired”.
