Huawei’s new Mate 20 Lite, which will be launched in South Africa on 5 October 2018, will have multiple new features – as revealed by the firm. Perhaps the most eagerly anticipated of these is the device’s four AI cameras – two rear-facing and two front-facing – which will be a first for South Africa. Users will now be able to fully optimise their selfies, as Huawei brings the power of AI to front-facing cameras.
“Last year, Huawei introduced the world to AI scene recognition for phone cameras with our Huawei Mate 10 Pro,” said Akhram Mohamed, Chief Technology Officer of Huawei Consumer Business Group South Africa. “This meant that users were now able to take the best photos possible for a variety of scenes – whether it be a beach, a sunset, or a favourite pet – because the camera was able to identify, in real-time, precisely what it was shooting, and therefore set the best parameters for that scene. Now, with the Huawei Mate 20 Lite, Huawei is bringing the same kind of intelligent photography to its selfie camera.”
As revealed by the company, the Huawei Mate 20 Lite uses its two AI-powered front-facing cameras to recognise the scenery behind the person capturing the photo to optimise the image. Once a background is identified, the camera automatically adjusts the colour, contrast, brightness, and exposure to produce the best possible photo for that specific subject. In addition, Huawei’s new AI and beauty algorithm with facial recognition ensures the user is always able to capture the best possible version of themselves.
The front-facing camera also offers AI and 3D Qmoji, which mirror your facial expressions using different characters. Qmoji provides users with a fun and playfully animated alter-ego to take selfies that you can share to social media as a GIF or video with one click.
