Nigeria: Galaxy Backbone completes phase one of fibre deployment

Galaxy Backbone, Information and Communications Technology Services provider has announced that the phase one of National ICT Infrastructure Backbone (NICTIB) Project has been completed. NICTIB is a government project delivered through Galaxy Backbone and financed by a China Exim Bank facility. Galaxy Backbone is currently busy with phase two and is targeting March 2019 for overall completion.

According to managing director of Galaxy Backbone, the project interconnects with undersea fibre cables, provides an e-Government connectivity backbone and broadband internet. Yusuf Kazaure said the national infrastructure deployed through Galaxy Backbone, the Government ICT services provider, connects all FGN secretariat complexes in States.

Kazaure said that Galaxy Backbone’s partners and other parties are guaranteed returns as its Infrastructure as a Service business model will provide services to these institutions at an annual premium fee. He further disclosed that Galaxy Backbone’s services are intended to fulfil the government’s promises to the public to reduce poverty and unemployment through various social development programmes.
