South African retailer Pick n Pay has unveiled its new online shopping website. The site is designed to work alongside the recently relaunched mobile app. According to the company, the website is geared towards customers on the move, catering for the rapid growth and use of smartphones on the continent.

“Online shopping remains about convenience,” said Mike Cotterell, General Manager of Pick n Pay Online Shopping. “Our aim with the new site was to combine that convenience with a simple and clean customer experience that works equally well on desktops and smartphones or tablets. Our customers are mobile, and our new shop gives them on-the-go accessibility.”

According to Pick n Pay, improvements to the customer experience include better search and navigation, improved product information, faster checkout and more delivery options. The app allows online shoppers to create shopping lists and view their purchase history at the click of a button, which enables adding previously-bought items to their trolley.

“Our biggest considerations in building the new site have been convenience, cost and range,” said Georgina Muirhead, Head of Customer Experience & Mobile. “We’re giving our online shoppers enormous choice so that they can create the grocery shopping experience that really works for them. From choosing the exact brand of tomato sauce they want… to selecting a specific delivery time, down to the hour, it’s all about grocery shopping fitting in with our customers’ lifestyles – not the other way around.”

Proving the point, the online retailer offers more than 15,000 products and delivers six days a week, from Monday to Saturday, until 20h00. Shoppers also have the option to collect their groceries, free of charge, from selected Pick n Pay stores across South Africa. This Click n Collect service means their groceries are picked, packed and waiting for them, in-store at a time that they’ve chosen.

“All products are hand-picked by trained personal shoppers, which means our customers are guaranteed the freshest products that have been personally picked for their orders.”

And if a customer is not happy with a product they receive, they can return it with their driver for a full refund.

“Whether for collection or door-to-kitchen-table delivery, we take care to deliver fresh, quality products to our customers. We’re proud of our online shopping experience and eager for both new and existing PnP Online customers to experience it for themselves.”

The new website will work in conjunction with the mobile app and the company’s dedicated online fulfilment warehouses and new fleet of delivery trucks to better serve the needs of online shoppers, said Cotterell. “We’re excited about what this means for our customers: simpler, more convenient, more affordable online grocery shopping – something that South African consumers have been wanting for a long time.”
