Huawei, on 6 September 2017, launched three of their mid-range smartphone devices in Kenya. The Huawei Y7 Prime, Huawei Y5 and Huawei Y3 are, according to the company, ideal for entry level smartphone users like young professionals.
Huawei Device Kenya Country Director, Derik Duh, speaking on the launch of the devices said, “The introduction of the Y series phone is part of Huawei’s strategy to target all categories of users and offer high-quality products at different price points by focusing on the high-end phone quality, technology and innovation in all our products to provide our consumers with a unique smartphone experience.”
According to the company, the Y series will target the growing mobile market segment providing powerful budget smartphones which offer productivity, entertainment and a superb photography experience. Huawei says their market share in Kenya stood at 14 percent at the end of 2016 and the company plans to expand it through innovative marketing.
