According to a report via Tech Crunch, online retailer eBay has teamed up with MallforAfrica.com to enable US sellers to gain access to Africa’s largest consumer markets.

According to the report, the partnership will allow the launch of a new eBay Powered by MallforAfrica dedicated platform – which set to go live in July 2016.

Fernando Saiz, Business Development Director of eBay, stated that the platform will enable inventory from all eBay US individual and business sellers with a 300+ star rating to be purchased by buyers in Nigeria and Kenya.

The report further reveals that Ghana will be added later in 2016… with more African countries to follow. The partnership will be a financial, marketing and logistics arrangement only, and eBay has not taken any equity stake in MallforAfrica.

MallforAfrica.com has backing from UK private equity firm Helios Investment Partners and partnerships with companies such as clothier Hawes and Curtis and department store Macy’s.

Folayan founded the site in 2011 after studying and working in the U.S. The idea came from a common request to Africans living abroad that highlighted a gap between supply and demand for the continent’s consumer markets.
