Glo Ghana has revealed the appointment of Augustine Mamoru as head of business. Mamoru will be replacing Hakeem Kazeem, who has been recalled to headquarters in Nigeria. At the time of his appointment Mamoru was formerly Head of Commercial at Glo.
According to a report by Adom News, this is the fifth time that Glo has changed its country head since it started operations in Ghana some four years plus ago.
The report reveals that Kazeem was allegedly recalled by the company to prevent his resignation. At his inaugural meeting with journalists some 30 months ago, Kazeem promised to take Glo Ghana to the number two spot in 24 months. When he came in, according to the report, Glo was number five on the market with over 1.62 million customers and commanded some 7 percent market share. At the time Kazeem left, according to the report, Glo’s subscriber base had dropped to 1.45million and its market share had fallen to 4.47 percent.
Over the period, all the other GSM players have grown subscriber base and market share except Glo. The most recent NCA market share trends indicate that Glo’s customer base has shrunk further to 1.397million and its market share to 4.26 percent.
