According to a report via News24, Penny Sparrow, a real estate agent from KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, took to social media platform Facebook and labelled African beachgoers as “monkeys.” According to the report this has resulted in a national social media outcry.
EWN reported that the company that had hired Sparrow, Jawitz Properties, said it is taking serious action against its former employee for posting a racist comment on her Facebook page. The report also revealed that Sparrow has not been with the company since November 2015, but has been using the firm’s logo on social media.
The EWN report revealed that CEO Herschel Jawitz said Sparrow’s comments have damaged the company’s reputation and she must account for her actions.
“We will take whatever action we deem necessary, including criminal, civil or any other action to get it removed and to get her shut down. We view this very seriously, it’s a very serious matter.”
Sparrow has since apologised for the statements made via social media; however, social media platform Twitter has been set ablaze with Africans voicing their opinion on the saga. The Twitter comments can be found below:
