South Africa: Vodacom responds to network outage

On 27 January 2016 Vodacom subscribers in Gauteng reported problems on the network, via social media platform Twitter. Vodacom subscribers were unable to access data services as well as had difficulty making voice calls.

According to downdetector.co.za the service had gone down at 12:58 PM SAST. While no reason for the outage was initially revealed at the time of the outage, Vodacom’s Executive Head of Corporate Affairs, Tshepo Ramodibe, reached out to IT News Africa and stated that: “We experienced a technical failure on one of our prepaid systems in Pretoria, which affected certain prepaid subscribers nationally.”


Ramodibe concluded by saying that: “The fault affected data and recharge services. We are happy to report that the incident has been resolved and extend an apology to all affected customers for any inconvenience caused.”
