Mobile device supplier Mobicel has launched the Mobicel Air in South Africa. At the launch event, the company revealed that the Mobicel Air is run on Android 4.4 KitKat – which is powered by a 1.7GHz octa-core processor.
To add to the features, the device comes equipped with a 4.8″ Super AMOLED touchscreen and weighs in at around 97 grams. The device also packs in an 8MP rear autofocus camera with touch focus, Gesture Shot, and self-timer options as well as real-time filters and an image editor. There’s also a full HD video recorder, and a 5MP front camera.
According to the company, the Mobicel Air also offers multiple connectivity features such as Bluetooth, WiFi capability, as well as long battery life. To add to the features, simply tapping the device twice wakes it from sleep mode; and drawing a series of symbols opens various apps like the camera, messages, and the media interface.
At the launch Mobicel CEO, Ridhwan Khan, stated that: “As with all its products, Mobicel put the Air through the paces to make sure it would stand up to daily use. Just some of Mobicel’s standard tests include drop, anti-bending, humidity, battery life, reception, call quality, video playback and mobile web tests.”
“We wouldn’t compromise on anything. Everything we do is about delivering an amazing user experience, and the Air is no exception. It’s fast, it’s feature-rich, and it’s affordable,” added Khan.
According to Khan, the Mobicel Air is currently available in South Africa and comes with a recommended retail price of R3499 – which is the equivalent of $295 USD.
