Kenya: Samsung launches Galaxy S6 & S6 Edge

Samsung East Africa has revealed that the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge smartphones are available on the Kenyan market. Robert Ngeru, Samsung East Africa COO stated that the firm recorded 500 pre-orders for both the Samsung S6 and S6 Edge before the official launch of the two phones in Nairobi.

According to Samsung, the devices will be available in White Pearl, Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum, Blue Topaz (Galaxy S6 only) and Green Emerald (Galaxy S6 edge only). According to Samsung, the devices will retail at KES 75,000 ($800 USD) and KES 90,000 ($960 USD).

The Samsung Galaxy S6 comes with a 5.1-inch Super Amoled display. While the display is the same size as its predecessor, the resolution is essentially 1.8 times higher at 1440 x 2560 pixels. The device is powered by a Exynos 7 64-bit processor, which combines a low-power 1.5 GHz quad core with a faster 2.1 GHz quad-core processor.

The Android -based 5.0 device comes with 3 GB RAM and either 32, 64 or 128 GB internal storage. Samsung also revealed that the device features an upgraded version of Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface.

When it comes to cameras, the Galaxy S6 packs in a rear 16 megapixel camera, with optical image stabilisation, and a 5 megapixel front facing camera. In addition to this, the S6 comes with an improved fingerprint scanner, LTE CAt.6 at up to 300Mbps, 2,600 mAh non-removable battery, WPC and PMA wireless charging, and support for Samsung’s new mobile payments service, launching later this year.
