Kenya: Safaricom reveals new data centre for Eldoret

Kenyan operator Safaricom has revealed the opening of a data centre, which will be located in Eldoret Western Kenya. According to both parties, the move is expected to enhance network quality in the North Rift region.

The hub, known as the MGW site, has been set up at Kapsoya in the outskirts of Eldoret Town. Safaricom revealed that the project has cost KES 20 million entirely. According to Safaricom, the data centre is set to improve the efficiency of the data centre organisation and installation, and maintenance of network equipment in the North Rift region.

Safaricom’s director of technology, Thiboud Rerolle, stated that: “The construction of the facility has been driven by demand from customers for data services. This site is well equipped and has been designed in a way that will enable any future expansions that it may do.”

Overall, Safaricom has eleven data hubs in Kenya, with Kapsoya being the first fully equipped state of the art one in North Rift region.
