The President of Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA), Mary Uduma has stated that there was a slight increase in the number of registration of the country’s .ng domain name in January this year.
According to Uduma, the .ng domain name recorded 1,542 registration in the month of January, 2015, which is a good start for the year – according to the authority.
“For the month of January 2015, 1,542 domain names were registered, 1,070 domain names were renewed and 41 domain names were transferred. When compared to January 2014, where 1,425 registered, 811 renewed and 49 transferred, we can say there was a slight increase in domain name activities in January 2015,” Uduma said.
According to This Day Live, Uduma explained that with more appreciation of the Nigerian identity on the Internet, as the year progresses, more activities would be noted within the domain name industry.
The total activities of domain names as at 31st December 2014, was above 18,000, with a tall target to achieve six million registered domain names in the next five years.
