IT News Africa recently attended the 2014 Huawei Cloud Congress (HCC), which was held at the Shanghai Expo centre. The expo gathers over 10,000 customers, partners and industry professionals from more than 80 countries and regions around the world to share insights and promote dialogue on industry trends and topics around cloud computing and Big Data. Participants at the two-day event heard from 66 of Huawei’s partners and industry leaders at the event, including: Intel, Seagate and SAP.
In addition to attending HCC, IT News Africa was also invited to visit the Huawei Headquarters, which is currently located in Shenzhen, China. In order to showcase the sheer size of Huawei’s headquarters, IT News Africa has compiled a gallery that not only showcases a small section of the premises, but also dives into the showcase and innovation centres.
According to Huawei, its actual headquarters is similar to a suburban town. It houses over 60,000 people and spans a great distance within Shenzhen. The company also revealed that the main centre of the organisation employs around 150,000 employees, who have come from all over the world to work for Huawei.
Huawei was originally founded in 1987 by ex-military officer Ren Zhengfei and formed as a private company owned by its employees. Its core missions are building telecommunications networks; providing operational and consulting services and equipment to enterprises inside and outside of China; and manufacturing communications devices for the consumer market.
