Microsoft has announced a sponsorship of two new categories for the 2014 MTN App of the Year Awards. The categories include best app on the Windows platform and best app use of Microsoft cloud services.
“The local developer community is growing and requires support from big business to fully reach its potential. No matter what device people are using, apps will be at the centre of their user experience and therefore it is essential we create an environment where talent is nurtured,” says Clifford de Wit, development platform lead at Microsoft South Africa.
The event will be held on 14 August at The Venue in Melrose Arch and showcases locally developed applications that have made a positive and lasting impact on consumers over the course of the last 12 months.
According to the company, Microsoft is also a Gold Sponsor of the awards, whose key criteria for judging the calibre of apps include whether they are intuitive to install and use, reflect simplicity in design, and add value for users or show improved functionality or innovation in terms of their feature sets.
“Through this sponsorship, we hope to showcase many more great South African apps that will help address the market’s hunger for locally relevant content that is either entertaining or useful to them. A constant need for innovation has resulted in the success of the Lumia range, with apps playing an integral part of the overall exciting end-user experience,” says De Wit.
