The merger between UNE-EPM Telecomunicaciones and Colombian mobile operator Tigo is set to be finalised and completed during the course of August 2014.
According to Comunidad Ola, the country’s regulator for Industry and Commerce as well as Colombia’s National Television Authority (ANTV) have approved the acquisition; however, Finance regulator Superfinanciera still needs to give the greenlight for the operation.
Once the operation has been fully completed, Comunidad Ola reports that the resulting integrated company is expected to offer bundled digital services including mobile and fixed telephony, mobile and fixed broadband and pay-TV packages. The new structure will be controlled by EPM, with a 50 percent stake plus one share. The remaining stake will be owned by Tigo’s parent company Millicom.
