The number of mobile subscribers in Zimbabwe is reported to have hit the 14 million mark, representing penetration of 103,5%.
The country’s Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority has been put forward by local media as a source for the recent statistics – reflecting mobile subscriber numbers for the period July to December 2013.
During the period under review mobile subscriber figures stood at 13,5 million, whilst data and internet subscribers totalled 5,2 million and fixed subscribers at 307,000.
In a media report published by The Herald, it was noted that from a comparison with March statistics that Econet Wireless added 500 000 subscribers, whilst Telecel grew its base by 100 000 and NetOne by 352 000.
There are projections that 2014 will yield positive growth across all user bases, including mobile, fixed and internet. Statistics in the 2014 National Budget reportedly attest to this.
