After the outstanding success of the first ever edition of the event in 2012, the 2nd Annual Cloud World Forum Africa is back in 2013 with a brand new expert speaker line-up and even more cloud-related subjects to cover.

Taking place at the Sandton Sun Hotel, in Johannesburg, on the 23rd and 24th of April, the event will feature a two-day conference with dual stream – Telco and Enterprise – and a co-located expo.

With over 1,500 people in attendance from across Africa, more than 20 top global exhibitors and over 60 expert speakers giving focused talks, the 2nd Annual Cloud World Forum Africa is one of the most anticipated events on the region’s IT calendar.

Speakers confirmed for the event include:

  • – Rodney de Koch, CIO, Department of International Relations & Cooperation South Africa (DIRCO)
  • – Dudley K. Peterson, CIO-Local Government, Department of Cooperative Governance South Africa
  • – Kobus Pienaar, CIO, Adcorp Holdings – Shishir Saraf, CIO, Sameer Africa

Rodney de Koch, CIO at DIRCO – and Cloud World Forum Africa’s keynote speaker – explained why the topic of cloud is of growing importance to African companies: “Because of the power problems in Africa, the required resource for power is much less thus encouraging BYOD on the cloud (use of generators and solar cells). Also, the undersea cables alongside the coastlines of Africa increase our national bandwidth to 8TB per second”.

He also predicted some of the main challenges that the African IT industry will face in 2013: “Policy formulation around Cloud Computing; leadership by SITA in adoption and embracement of Cloud Computing by public sector; greater awareness among public sector consumers on access to information through a “utility” model; appropriate partnerships with industry players and service providers to establish the required foundation infrastructure”.

Rodney de Koch’s presentation, New Cloud Deployment in the Government Sector, will be held at 1:40pm  in the Enterprise Stream on Day 1 of the event (23rd April).
