Mobile games developer Rovio Entertainment has decided to combine two of the most loved franchises in history – by turning the highly-successful Angry Birds into a Star Wars-themed title. While the game will only be available on 8 November for iOS, Android and PC, players will be able to once again take on the evil Darth Vader.
The usual birds will all resemble a character from the Star Wars films, but Paul Southern, vice president of licensing and consumer products marketing for Lucasfilm said they will also have their own personality. “They are not Angry Birds dressed up as Star Wars characters. They are characters in their own right. They’ve got personalities which are kind of similar,” he said.
As an example, the red birds will be turned into X-Wing pilot Luke Skywalker from Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope. Other characters which will be embodied by the birds will be Chewbacca, Princess Leia, Han Solo and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
In terms of the little piggies, they will naturally take on the role of the Dark Side. You will see a pig-esque Vader and pig-esque stormtroopers,” Southern added.
Rovio Entertainment is expected to make the official announcement on Monday, and comes mere weeks after Rovio launched the sequel to Angry Birds, called Bad Piggies. But a mobile game will not be the only item that Rovio has in mind for the Angry Birds.
It is rumoured that the franchise will also feature a number of other Angry Birds-Star Wars games, such as Jenga Death Star, At-At Attack Battle board game, wearable costumes and new plush toys.
