Glo launches officially in Ghana

“(Glo had) rolled out the most modern telecommunications network and is introducing into the market abundant, superior and attractive value offerings in all ten regions of the country,” said Chief Operating Officer George Andah.

“We are pleased to inform you that the wait is over. Now, we are ready to provide Ghana with the most-modern and reliable telecommunications services that you have not only been yearning for, but which you truly deserve. We remain as committed as ever to our vision to build the biggest and best telecommunication network in Africa,” Andah added.

Although Glo became the sixth telecommunication operator in Ghana, it was fined R1.6-million for delaying the start of the much-celebrated launch. Glo received a mobile license four years ago, and delayed the launch for various reasons.

According to Andah, “about 1.5-million subscribers have reserved their lines on the Glo network, which has the capacity to handle over 10 million lines, as he urged people to redeem their reserved lines,” wrote The Daily Trust.

Glo Mobile opened with 25 stores across the country, with long queues forming from potential subscribers who wanted to activate their reserved lines. “A cross section of the subscribers expressed delight about the unique offerings of Glo Mobile, especially the ‘Good day Ghana package’ which gives subscribers free 20Gp worth of credits every day for 100 days,” wrote Vibe Ghana.
