MTN introduces R2 recharge voucher

On the back of the successful launch of the R5 recharge voucher, and with the reduction in airtime margins and prepaid tariffs, MTN has launched a R2 airtime voucher, in physical format, to address the need for an even lower denomination recharge option by its prepaid customers.

“Market analysis has highlighted that a large segment of MTN Pay-As-You-Go customers prefer to recharge more frequently, in smaller denominations, as a means to “top up” to meet their ongoing needs for cellular connectivity,” says Serame Taukobong, Chief Marketing Officer, MTN SA.

In fact, demand for recharge vouchers of a lower denomination prompted MTN to launch a R5 voucher in October 2007.

“We have continued to listen to our customers and realised that they require an even lower denomination. So in June 2010, we launched the R2 recharge voucher in virtual format. The availability of the R2 physical voucher today is to complement and drive what has already proven to be a product with high demand in the market,” adds Taukobong.

The physical R2 recharge voucher is currently only available from MTN Authorised Distributors.

“There has been a keen interest from a Trade Partner point of view for the R2 voucher and we are confident that with the availability of the physical recharge voucher, we are likely to see high consumer interest. This is just another way MTN is lowering the recharge barrier to keep our customers connected,” concludes Taukobong.
