While the service is yet to launch, Holdsworth is confident AppChat will reduce voice call rates and improve quality. “The price of mobile voice calls will start to plummet in the next 24 months, just as we have seen with data,” Holdsworth tells MyBroadband.

The publication also noted that “AppChat subscribers will be able to call any number in South Africa and internationally (both fixed line and mobile), at much lower costs and higher levels of quality than the current offerings from the cellular operators”.

The service will be available in two different ways, namely a SIM card or an AppChat application. The SIM option will allow AppChat function as a virtual mobile network operator, while the app will enable contract customers on other mobile networks to make lower voice call prices through VoIP.

“Holdsworth is confident that AppChat will enjoy significant uptake, explaining that South Africans always appreciate a great value proposition — particularly one that lives up to its promises,” MyBroadband concluded.
