The West African Telecom Exhibition (W.AFRI-TEL) of 2012 will take place at the Eko Hotel fair ground in Lagos, Nigeria. The event, running from 8 – 10 May 2012, will facilitate business opportunities in the telecom sector.
The exhibition will allow exhibitors to gain access to the Nigerian telecom market that contains 80 million mobile phone subscribers. According to W.AFRI-TEL, the event is the only one of its kind in the region, as well as the flagship event for the Information Communication Technology (ICT) sector.
Africa’s ICT sector is rapidly growing and has reached all-time highs. The combined revenue alone of mobile communications markets in Cameroon, Nigeria and the Ivory Coast was 8.6 billion dollars in 2009. According to the business research and consulting firm Frost & Sullivan, this is estimated to reach 12,6 billion in 2016.
“There are a lot of growth opportunities in both the business and ICT sectors in Nigeria,” said Protea Hirschel, ICT industry analyst at Frost and Sullivan, in a recent statement. “Broadband growth alone stands at 23% over the next six or seven years.”
