Following in the footsteps of former Research in Motion (RIM) regional director Deon Liebenberg, another RIM director has chosen to walk over to rival Samsung. Craige Fleisher, RIM’s regional director for Southern Africa, will be taking up a new position at Samsung on the 1st of October 2011.
A RIM spokesperson confirmed to ITNewsAfrica that Fleisher is no longer involved with RIM.
“Craige Fleischer is no longer employed at RIM and we appreciate his past contributions to the business. BlackBerry continues to be number one in the market and we are pleased to have an extremely talented management team in place that remains focused on continuing the growth of BlackBerry products and services in the region.”
A Samsung account executive also confirmed to ITNewsAfrica that he will be joining Samsung. “I can confirm that he will be joining Samsung from 1 October. Craige joins Samsung Regional Headquarters (RHQ) in a Business Development role within Office Automation and Consumer Electronics Africa and brings with him a wealth of experience having been involved in sales for several years.”.
Former RIM Regional Director and current Samsung MD for South Africa, Deon Liebenberg, is bound by a restraint of trade which prevents him from being involved in Samsung’s mobile business, and the same conditions have been applied to Fleisher.
As to why Craig Fleisher is joining Samsung, the company said that he would like to broaden his horizons. “Craige has until recently been with Research in Motion and seeks to broaden his horizons in respect of opportunities in Africa for the above product categories. Craige will report to Mr KK Park, President and CEO of Samsung Africa RHQ.
