Egypt’s Etisalat, the country’s third largest mobile operator, and Qanawat, a mobil econtent provider, are brining Islamic artists to the phone after the two announced a new agreement that would give Etisalat exclusive access to ring tones for the holy month.
Now, Egyptian users can add religious ring tones to their phone and are able to choose from a wide selection of leading religious figures from across the region, a statement form the companies said.
Ring tones are a popular commodity among mobile phone users in Egypt and during the holy month of Ramadan, religious songs and Qur’anic recitations become commonplace on citizen’s phones.
“We are delighted to be working with Etisalat Egypt and providing the operator and its customers with exclusive, top quality content,” said Qanawat CEO Adnan Omar al-Obthani.
“In choosing Qanawat to supply content, Etisalat Egypt can rest assured that it has picked a regional expert that can maximize the efficiency and profitability of the service offered and which can initialize investments on the operator’s behalf to achieve the highest possible number of sales.”
Egyptians are already excited about the offerings. Ramy, a 43-year-old café manager, said he has already started going through the list and is looking to purchase a few tones for the month.
“It is good to get in the atmosphere of the month and show that Islam is great and can also be fun,” he said.
