Science and technology are key instruments in bolstering Nigeria's economy

Nigerian technology professional and Yaba College rector, Margaret Lapido says science and technology are key instruments in bolstering the country’s economic progress.

Ladipo says if Nigeria wants to enter the global technology economy with great force, they must improve the country’s Information Communication and Technology (ICT) sector.

Speaking at a three-day conference and exhibition, hosted by the World Bank, Lapido argued that it’s only through science and technology development that Nigeria can be able to develop as a nation.

The Nigerian federal government continues to push for improving the overall economic health of the country and has stated that it wants to break into the top 20 global ICT economies

Lapido says that these two areas are crucial for the country as it pushes forward for the 20-20-20 vision established by the Nigerian government.

“In this competitive era of globalization, science and technology are key to our national development. Management would continue to support ST education and encourage both staff and students in this area.

Also, innovations and intellectual properties developed in this process would be promoted at every opportunity,” says Lapido.
