Online gaming has become increasingly popular, and growing with the trend Sony has announced that they will be investing $20-million over three years for more PlayStation Network-exclusive games, from both first-party studios and independent developers.
“We’re doubling down on PlayStation Network software, and under this additional investment over the next three years, we anticipate a steady flow of high-quality titles that can’t be found anywhere else,” said Brandon Stander, director of PlayStation Network marketing at SCEA.
A major portion of the investment will be pumped into Sony’s Pub Fund, which aims to help independent developers publish their games via the PlayStation Network.
SCEA’s fund helps developer design and market the game, while the developers get to keep the IP and choose the price.
“PlayStation Network is poised to deliver an enviable line-up of exclusive and imaginative games this year, with highly anticipated first-party titles like thatgamecompany’s Journey and PixelJunk Sidescroller,” Stander added.
