Moshe Adir, creator of GolfWeather

The world’s first hyper-local weather forecast service for golfers and travellers, www.golfweather.com, has been developed by South African online entrepreneur Moshe Adir, a 14-year veteran of the international on-line start-up arena.

GolfWeather is a free service intent on mapping weather conditions at every golf course on the planet one geo tag at a time, and has enabled Adir to combine his love of golf (he plays off an impressive 2 handicap) with his passion for online business.

Adir has developed an iPhone app which is in the testing stage, and also has apps for Blackberry and Android phones in development. The mobi tool www.golfweather.mobi is already up and running and is a stripped down WAP site which is free to use and gives a detailed 48 hour forecast for all SA courses. The mobi site is almost ready to go through a full stage 2 makeover.

GolfWeather provides detailed 7-day forecasts which are updated every 3 hours and are specific to the GPS co-ordinates of over 2 thirds of the world’s golf courses including South Africa (523 courses), the USA (17 500 + courses) and Canada, the UK and Ireland as well as Australia. Next up is New Zealand, with the rest of the world to follow.

Adir has partnered with golf clubs to place www.golfweather.com weather feed widgets on their home pages, widgets also appear on the websites of local and international golfing magazines and many large golfing portals. To date there are over 300 sites using the GolfWeather widget worldwide and the number is growing at an impressive rate. GolfWeather is also building a self-service widget engine so users can create their own widgets for their sites on the fly.

“The site www.golftoday.co.uk which is the oldest and largest golf portal in Europe and which reaches millions of golfers, has also integrated GolfWeather widgets on every one of their global course listing pages and Tournament weather section,” Adir said.

This deal is already growing the GolfWeather user base at a steady rate. There are many similar deals happening locally and internationally which will see GolfWeather attain massive global exposure and growth.
