Multi-Links Nigeria workers are facing an uncertain future as the company is up for sale and the new owners do not appear to be taking their grievances into consideration.

Representatives of the Multi-Links workers confirmed that they are troubled about the instability surrounding the sale of the company and are calling for severance packages to be paid for those who might be laid off by the new company’s management.

Multi-Links was initially sold to Visafone, however that deal was canceled after the company was allegedly sold to Helios Towers.

It still remains unclear who will take over the company and workers are worried that there could be massive layoffs in the immediate future. “We don’t really know what is going on right now so we are waiting to see,” says one employee, who asked not to be named.

“It is frustrating and for many of us, we have worked here a long time.”

In 2010, Telkom SA indicated that it plans to it withdraw from Multi-Links after the company reported massive financial losses.
