Sony’s Jack Buser confirmed that since PlayStation Home came back online after it was hacked in April, which left the service unavailable for almost two months, user activity levels have peaked.
“We’re having record traffic in Home. The week we restored the service, we hit a new record in terms of weekly unique users,” Buser, who serves as director for PlayStation Home, told gaming website Gamasutra.
He added that they are excited about the growth, and praised PlayStation’s loyal fans. “We were watching the numbers and we were just so excited. We were just dancing in the streets. The numbers are through the roof. I think it speaks to the loyalty of our user base, and to the power of these kinds of platforms.”
Although PlayStation Home is the only service to see record traffic since PSN came back online, president and CEO Jack Tretton revealed that PlayStation 3 hardware sales rose by 27% and that activity levels have reached 90% compared to before the service went offline.
Since PlayStation Network came back online, Sony has added over 100 free virtual items in Home including two free downloads of selected titles for registered users.
