MultiChoice Africa, Eutelsat Communications and Mindset Learn have initiated a pan-African student competition – “DStv Eutelsat Star Awards” which is aimed at creating awareness about science and technology and the impact of satellites for Africa’s development.
Collins Khumalo, MultiChoice Africa President says the DStv Eutelsat Star Award is another way of showing the company’s continued commitment and support for Africa next generation.
“Africa and its people will benefit from a new generation of big thinkers who will take on the new world and become agents and leaders of change,” says Khumalo.
The award competition is open to students between the age of 14 and 19 years. Students will be invited to write an essay or design a poster on satellite technology. Every participant has to demonstrate how science and technology can assist with further development in their community, country or the African continent.
Winners from the various participating countries will compete for the overall prize at an international competition.
The overall winner will be invited to see a live rocket launch and will visit Eutelsat’s headquarters in France, while merit award winners will win a trip to Johannesburg to see DStv’s technical facilities and television studios at the MultiChoice Africa offices. They will also tour the Mindset education broadcast facilities.
Michel de Rosen Eutelsat Communications CEO, says working with MultiChoice and Mindset Learn is a way for his company to show its commitment in encouraging African students to engage with new technologies.
“Space still represents a field of adventure, which can stimulate the minds of students in Africa,” says Rosen.
