Egypt gets call centre for farmers

Egyptian farmers are to get help from Vodafone

Egyptian farmers were presented with a new call centre to help integrate the agricultural sector with the mainstream telecommunications economy.

The call centre is a business partnership initiative between the Agricultural Research Center (ARC) and Vodafone Egypt, and is a positive move in improving the overall telecom penetration and access for people caught in the digital divide.


According to Vodacom Egypt, the agreement puts agricultural guidance services via mobile as well as providing the framework for launching a Call Centre for Egyptian farmers, with investments of up to 15 million Egyptian pounds (about USD $2,5 million).

Quick Serve will be responsible for implementing the project as well as providing technical assistance throughout all phases of operation.

Vodafone Egypt has also announced the distribution of one million free mobile phones to farmers across Egypt to provide them with the latest crop information in order to yield the highest possible productivity per acre of land.

Hatem Dowidar, CEO of Vodafone Egypt has expressed his contentment with the initiative, indicating that it will open up new horizons for Egyptian farmers to use the latest mobile communication services.
