Another gaming studio hacked

Bethesda has become the latest hacking victim

In what has become rather common-place, another gaming publisher has been the victim of hackers. This comes after PlayStation’s PSN was left immobile for almost two months, and Codemasters confirmed that they were also hacked last week.

The latest victim is Bethesda, who confirmed the news of the hack over the weekend. Bethesda, who published Brink and Hunted, told customers that hackers “may have gained access to some user names, email addresses, and/or passwords”.

However, the company was quick to point out that no personal financial information or credit card data was stolen.
“Over the past weekend, a hacker group attempted an unlawful intrusion of our websites to gain access to data. We believe we have taken appropriate action to protect our data against these attacks. While no personal financial information or credit card data was obtained, the hackers may have gained access to some user names, email addresses, and/or passwords,” Bethesda said in a statement.

They also advised gamers to change all their usernames and passwords. “If your username/email address/password is similar to what you use on other sites, we recommend changing the password at those sites as well. As we don’t know what further plans the hackers may have, we suggest that you keep an eye out for suspicious emails and account activity.”
