South African distributor, Core Group, has announced that the Apple iPad 2 will be available locally tomorrow (29 April 2011). The company has released a statement which lays out the recommended purchase price and retail outlets where the device will be available.
The second generation of the iPad is lighter (by 80g, or 15%), and thinner (by 33%) then it’s predecessor and has had a face-lift too. Although techradar.com described the iPad 2 as feeling “a bit more like a plastic plate” then the older device, it has been roundly praised for it’s good looks.
The improvements aren’t all visual though, the dual core A5 chip under the hood gives the iPad 2 a kick-start for surfing the web, watching films, making video calls, gaming and multitasking.
One of the biggest improvements on the iPad 2 is the inclusion of a second camera, which means that users can make live video-calls using Apple’s FaceTime app.
The iPad 2 does come at a premium, however, with the entry level 16GB, WiFi-only device starting off at R4,399.00, and prices ranging up to the Big-Daddy, WiFi and 3G equipped 64GB device weighing in at R7,599.00 .
