Kenya’s battle inside the Communications Commission (CCK) has a new arbiter after the country’s Information Minister Samuel Poghiso entered the fray over a boardroom battle that is threatening to oust Director-General Charles Njoroge from his position.
Poghiso believes he can help calm the internal situation at CCK and help move the commission past the row.
Upon receiving the CCK board’s written evaluation of Njoroge’s performance, Poghiso asked the Inspectorate of the State Corporations for advice on how to proceed.
The CCK in recent years under the direction of Njoroge has routinely been rated as performing at a “very good” level, but the board has handed in a negative performance evaluation that could threaten the director-general’s position at the commission.
Poghiso has reportedly said the evaluation itself is suspect and has demanded an appraisal of Njoroge, who for the past three years has run the CCK. The information minister is asking for a complete evaluation of the board’s statements in an effort to help resolve the situation at the CCK as quickly and as smoothly as possible.
